What is the purpose of the program?

Diamond Del’s Gem Mining Adventure is The Field Trip That Comes To You! It is designed to create interest in the rock and mineral unit often taught in grade levels ranging through k-12th (depending on the school district). This program shows students that science can be FUN!

How much does it cost?

What does the program include?

Each student is guaranteed to find a fabulous gem collection featuring over 15 different gems and minerals from around the world. Participants view an educational DVD before the program begins. A color ID chart is also provided.

How long is the program?

The mining session is 30 minutes long. Students should view Educational Gem Mining DVDs before and after their mining session. The DVDs are 20 minutes long.

Does the program include a presentation or a lesson?

Our program begins with a 12 minute video that prepares the students for their gem mining adventure.  In the video, we present all of the minerals the students can find in our mine and we show them how we mine in the mobile gem mine. The video also shows how rocks and minerals are formed and explains the difference between rocks and minerals. After the mining, the students will watch a 12 minute video that shows them how to classify and identify their minerals.

How do I make a reservation?

Fill out our online reservation form and we will contact you by the next business day.

When do we pay for the program?

You may collect money up until the day of our visit. Your confirmation packet will include an invoice, simply fill it out on the day of my visit with correct number of participants. This is your invoice. The school secretary can issue a check on the day of our visit, or mail it to us afterward.
