Frequently Asked Questions

What is the purpose of the program?

Diamond Del’s Gem Mining Adventure is The Field Trip That Comes To You! It is designed to create interest in the rock and mineral unit often taught in 3rd, 4th, and 8th (depending on the school district). This program shows students that science can be FUN!

How much does it cost?

Contact your regional contact for pricing in your area. Most areas charge well under $10/student.

What does the program include?

Each student is guaranteed to find a fabulous gem collection featuring over 15 different gems and minerals from around the world. Participants view an educational DVD before the program begins. A color ID chart is also provided.

How long is the program?

The mining session is 30 minutes long. Students should view Educational Gem Mining DVDs before and after their mining session. The DVDs are 20 minutes long.

Does the program include a presentation or a lesson?

Before I arrive at your school, you will receive a DVD for the students to watch prior to our visit. In the DVD, Diamond Del introduces each rock and mineral. Your confirmation packet will include color brochures for each of your participants. The brochures feature a rock and mineral identification card. Make sure each student brings their brochure with them to school on the day of my visit. You can use this once you are back in the classroom to identify the stones the students find while mining. The follow-up DVD teaches them how to classify and identify their collection.

How do I make a reservation?

Fill out our online reservation form and we will contact you by the next business day. Go to: www.diamonddel.com, click “Schools”, click “Make a Reservation”.

When do I receive a conformation packet?

Once I receive your online reservation, I will contact you to determine a date. After we set a date, I will mail you a confirmation packet. The packet will include the Educational Gem Mining DVD, brochures for each of your participants, and your confirmation letter. Once you receive a confirmation, there is no need to follow up prior to my visit.

How do I make the schedule?

Bring out your students in groups of 30 to 42. This may require putting classes together for the mining session. Please allow only 10 minutes in between classes. This allows me accommodate more than one school a day and keep the cost of the program low.

When do we pay for the program?

You may collect money up until the day of our visit. Your confirmation packet will include an invoice, simply fill it out on the day of my visit with correct number of participants. This is your invoice. The school secretary can issue a check on the day of our visit, or mail it to us afterward.
